Bridge the Gap is a community outreach program designed to enrich the lives of abused and neglected children in Clark, Cowlitz, and Skamania counties in Southwest Washington.
Bridge the Gap provides resources to enhance the stability, growth, and success of children in foster care.
Vision:
Our vision is to give every child a childhood.
What They Do:
Founded in 1999, Bridge the Gap helps children in foster care access opportunities and resources that many children take for granted.
The organization provides assistance such as:
- Clothing and essential items
- Tutoring and educational support
- Counseling and therapy resources
- Camp experiences
- Sports participation and activity fees
- Music and art classes
- Emergency resources during placement transitions
- Comfort items such as blankets, toys, books, and stuffed animals
Why Their Work Matters:
According to BTG, more than 1,400 children enter or are in the foster care system each year in Southwest Washington. Many children arrive in foster care with little more than the clothes on their backs and are forced to leave behind the belongings that provide comfort and stability. Bridge the Gap works to fill those gaps and help children experience normal childhood opportunities that foster confidence, growth, and hope.
Community Impact:
Bridge the Gap is a volunteer-driven organization supported through community donations, sponsorships, and fundraising efforts.
Their work helps foster children experience important “firsts,” such as:
- Playing on a sports team
- Attending summer camp
- Taking music lessons
- Receiving tutoring support
- Accessing therapeutic services
- Obtaining new clothing and other essentials
Ways You Can Help:
There are many meaningful ways to support Bridge the Gap and make a difference for children in foster care. You can make a one-time donation or become a monthly supporter, volunteer at an event or sponsor a program, contribute clothing and comfort items, or help fund tutoring, sports, music lessons, summer camps, and other enriching opportunities. You can also help by sharing Bridge the Gap’s mission with friends and family. Every act of support helps give local children the stability, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.
