Where They Came From:

The Giving Closet was founded in 2000 in Vancouver, Washington, with a simple yet powerful mission: to serve individuals and families in crisis by providing essential resources with dignity and compassion. It began humbly in a 500-square-foot attic at Vancouver Church, where volunteers offered clothing and basic necessities to those in need. As the demand for services grew, the organization expanded into a small house on the church property, and eventually into a warehouse space, increasing its capacity every few years to meet the growing needs of the community.
In 2011, The Giving Closet became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, solidifying its commitment to long-term service. Today, it operates out of a 9,000-square-foot facility, offering a free community store stocked with clothing, household goods, toiletries, and emergency food. Over the years, The Giving Closet has served more than 30,800 individuals, creating a welcoming and respectful environment where people in crisis can find support and hope.
